چکیده

Based on scaling arguments the governing equations for turbulent flows are classified. The similarity for stratified and rotating flows is characterized and the conditions for a hydrostatic assumption are shown for several flow regimes. For stratified rotating flow a scale analysis of the turbulent stresses exhibits different classes of second order closure. The complete sets of the governing equations for second and third order turbulent closures are presented. The evolution of the equations is embedded into a historical chronology.

Statistical Dynamical Closures and Subgrid Modeling for Inhomogeneous QG and 3D Turbulence

Statistical dynamical closures for inhomogeneous turbulence described by multi-field equations are derived based on renormalized perturbation theory. Generalizations of the computationally tractable quasi-diagonal direct interaction approximation for inhomogeneous barotropic turbulent flows over topography are developed. Statistical closures are also formulated for large eddy simulations includ...

MHD turbulence at high Reynolds number

Scientific context Magnetic fields are important dynamically in a variety of situations in geophysics and astrophysics. Numerous observations are appearing, e.g. thanks to remote sensing and in particular to the CLUSTER ensemble of 4 satellites, allowing for an estimation of fields and of their derivatives in the Solar Wind close environment. In the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) approximation valid...

Self-Energy Closure for Inhomogeneous Turbulent Flows and Subgrid Modeling

A new statistical dynamical closure theory for general inhomogeneous turbulent flows and subgrid modeling is presented. This Self-Energy (SE) closure represents all eddy interactions through nonlinear dissipation or forcing ‘self-energy’ terms in the mean-field, covariance and response function equations. This makes the renormalization of the bare dissipation and forcing, and the subgrid modeli...

Intermittency and Eddy-viscosities in Dynamical Models of Turbulence

The dependence of intermittent inertial properties on ultraviolet eddy viscosity closures is examined within the framework of shellmodels of turbulent flows. Inertial intermittent exponents turn out to be fairly independent on the way energy is dissipated at small scales.

On the Relation Between the Large-Scale Tropospheric Circulation and Air Quality in Tehran

The large-scale tropospheric circulation can play a controlling role in the accumulation and ventilation of air pollutants. It thus impacts air quality in large urban areas. This paper investigates the statistical relations between the dynamical indices related to circulation in the troposphere and visibility as a surrogate for air pollution in the urban area of Tehran for the climatological pe...
